Education and Human Services

Reach LLP logo

Reach LLC is a community dedicated to engaging students who are pursuing, or contemplating, a major that seeks to serve others through careers in education or human services. Individuals who choose these careers directly affect the lives of others and are personally and professionally changed for the better through that service.

Reach is an interdisciplinary community of learners, who share the common purpose of dedicating their life in service to others.

Everything about the Reach LLC is tailored toward finding how the characteristics that make you, uniquely you, can be applied to serving others and helping them to improve their lives. As students move forward in their studies and anticipate the beginning of their careers in education or human services fields, we believe that deliberate attention to issues that help each of us understand our own strengths, motivations, passions, and more, will result in a more meaningful educational experience while at Virginia Tech, and a deeper sense of purpose and vitality in the work they do moving forward. That is where the power of this community is so evident.

Because everything we do in the human services and education career paths is founded on relationships, Reach LLC students are strongly encouraged to take Healthy Relationships (EDCO 2004, 3 credits). The class is included in Pathway Concept Areas:

  • 3. Reasoning in Social Sciences
  • 7. Identity & Equity in U.S.
  • 11. Intercultural & Global Awareness

This course is in high demand and Reach LLC students will be given the special opportunity to have priority enrollment in either the Fall or Spring.

This course is highly recommended for all first-year program participants and is strongly encouraged for returning students.

In collaboration with the College Access Collaborative at VT, VTeach program brought high school students interested in becoming teachers or school counselors to campus. Montgomery County, Roanoke, Radford, Pulaski and Tazewell have been asked to send 15 students each who are interested in teaching and school counseling.
